Having served as a member of the Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter for 29 years, President Harris has consistently demonstrated her leadership abilities through successfully serving at both the national and local chapter levels. Throughout her administration, Ellison emphasized the importance of the strength of the family unit. As the daughter of a civil rights activist and from a family immersed in the Movement, she determined early that education and equal justice were important for all people of color. As a foremost thought leader and policy architect, she has spearheaded legislative victories to legally establish the nations first Office on African American Affairs, and to introduce and pass the historic anti-hair discrimination CROWN Act. In the early days of the organization, she worked very hard with the Vigilance Committee.
